Everyday Negotiation Skills 2018

Ever had that sinking feeling about negotiating with the other side? What’s an effective approach when dealing with more experienced practitioners or people I don’t know? What does a good outcome look like for my client? Will these parents ever speak again?
This workshop will help you to focus on how to negotiate constructively, listen to your clients and reduce the stress with colleagues.

Attend this workshop to learn how to:

  • assess the ways family lawyers typically negotiate
  • engage clients in a dialogue which gives them a voice, using language and words positively
  • manage meetings with clients modelling constructive communication
  • focus on the modes of communication, the impact of correspondence and phone calls
  • build your confidence to engage constructively with your colleagues from the outset
  • avoid focussing too much on positions, and more on what really matters to clients

Format of the day

  • The day will be made up of presentations and interactive exercises in small groups. The training is especially designed to help you in face-to-face working, plan your negotiation approach and improve your interpersonal skills.

  • This workshop is not suitable for those who have trained as collaborative practitioners
