Press release

5 years, 19 lawyers and 5 law lords later...

10 Jul 2006

The Law Lords rule on Smith and Smith and SSW&P on Wednesday 12th July 2006. Oldham couple Helen and Bob Smith provide the perfect example of how the CSA is not working.
After five years of heartbreaking and costly wrangling, the current system has still provided no satisfactory answer for them, their three children and thousands like them.

The UK’s leading family lawyers group, Resolution, has indicated how easy it could be for the CSA to get out of this unholy mess, by giving the courts more powers from the outset.

The two Resolution lawyers involved in bringing the case to the House of Lords have implored the government to listen to Resolution’s suggestions for making the system simpler, faster and fairer.

For a detailed briefing before the judgement, talk to:

Andrew Greensmith, chairman of the 5000-strong Resolution about how lawyers see changes taking place

Kim Fellowes of Resolution’s CSA reform task force about the discussions Resolution has had with politicians

After the judgement talk to them, plus:

Helen Smith - about her personal experiences

Bradley Williams of Family Law in Partnership – the London solicitor-agent, which has worked to support Helen’s case

David Burrows, Resolution member and solicitor advocate, representing Mr Smith.
