Legal Aid plans are cost-cutting measures which will hit the vulnerable

11 Jan 2007

That's the warning from family lawyers group Resolution who say that the government is working within an unrealistic timetable and without any real understanding of the consequences of the reforms they are proposing.

Says Dave Emmerson, who chairs Resolution's legal aid task force, "As far as family legal aid is concerned, this is a cost cutting exercise. We have already seen a massive exodus of family lawyers from the legal aid system and these changes will only exacerbate the situation leaving many vulnerable people without legal representation."
