Award good news for alternative dispute resolution

News Release

18 Oct 2011

Resolution tonight congratulated Family Law in Partnership for being named Family Law Firm of the Year at a prestigious awards ceremony in London, saying that the judges’ praise for the firm’s collaborative law services highlighted the crucial importance of alternative dispute resolution in any modern family law firm.

Family Law in Partnership received the accolade at the Family Law Awards 2011, held at London’s Hilton Hotel this evening (Tuesday 18th October 2011).

Colin Jones, Chief Executive of Resolution, said: “It is welcome and inspiring to see firms like Family Law in Partnership being acknowledged for their robust commitment to alternative dispute resolution, including their trailblazing approaches to collaborative law and mediation.

“With many such firms facing huge challenges, not least because of the Government’s ill-considered plans to cut family legal aid, it is important to recognise and celebrate those that are championing constructive, non-confrontational approaches to family law.”

He added that Resolution members increasingly offer non-court options such as collaborative law and mediation because they recognise their clients’ desire to take responsibility for their families.

Resolution also offered its congratulations to Bindmans, Hartnell Chanot and Michelmores LLP, which were all short-listed for the award.

Resolution has close links with Family Law in Partnership. David Allison, a partner at the firm, is current chair of Resolution, while other partners at Family Law in Partnership have been strong supporters of Resolution’s work.

James Pirrie, for example – who was shortlisted for the Outstanding Contribution to the Field of Family Law category in tonight’s Family Law Awards – was a founder of Resolution’s Parenting After Parting initiative, which provides parents with information, advice and workshops to help them manage the impact of their divorce or separation on their children.

The Family Law Awards recognise excellence in family law, and are judged by a senior advisory panel of individuals from the legal profession. See http://familylawawards.com.
