Good Divorce Week 2016

During Good Divorce Week 2016, Resolution members from across the country helped to promote our new Code of Practice, and to lobby Members of Parliament for changes to family law, including the need for no fault divorce.

Thanks to our members' support, our fifth national awareness-raising week was our most successful to date..

Lobby Day

On 30 November, members from across the country came to Westminster to take part in our Lobby Day. We were delighted to be addressed by Bob Neill MP, Chair of the Justice Select Committee, and Richard Burgon MP, Shadow Lord Chancellor.
In total, over 50 MPs were spoken to on the day or in separate meetings arranged as a result of the Lobby Day.
We were delighted with the positive response our members received from MPs, many of whom were surprised to learn about the way the current fault-based system works.
Many have committed to raise this issue in Parliament, and we hope, in addition to the work we will maintain at a national level, members will continue to work with their local MPs to put pressure on the Government to introduce No Fault Divorce and end the blame game.

Media coverage

Our success in Parliament meant we were also successful in the media. Our call for No Fault Divorce was the subject of a big feature in the Daily Telegraph and in the Solicitor's Journal.
On the day of the Lobby Day, it also featured on:
  • Good Morning Britain (as the lead story)
  • BBC 5Live Breakfast
  • Victoria Derbyshire Show (BBC2 and BBC News Channel)
  • Woman's Hour
  • ITV Lunchtime News
  • Channel 5 Evening News

The story also featured on a number of BBC local radio stations, and members have been highlighting the issue with their local newspapers as well.
In total, there were over 80 pieces of print or broadcast coverage, generating over 40 million opportunities to see, read, or hear about Resolution members and our call to end the blame game.
This was up 25% on 2015, and the most coverage we've ever received during our awareness-raising week, so thanks to all who supported this work.
