Cris McCurley qualified in 1990. She is head of the International Family Law team at Ben Hoare Bell LLP. Her specialist case load covers forced marriage and honour based violence, child abduction, trafficking, female genital mutilation and all forms of violence against women and children.
She is a member of the children panel and the ICACU (child abduction panel) and is Resolution accredited in child abduction, and domestic abuse.
Cris co-wrote the MOJ/HMCTS Forced marriage Court Users Manual, and she established the FM/HBV specialism for Resolution in 2009, and is the Resolution trainer and examiner in these subjects.
Cris was awarded the Karma Nirvana Heroine award in 2009, voted for by the survivors of forced marriage and honour based violence, and in 2014 she was a finalist for Family Lawyer of the year at the LALYs with Ben Hoare Bell winning the legal aid firm of the year.
In October 2014, Cris was awarded the Law Society lawyer of the Year award by the National law Society. And in 2016, Cris was awarded the IKWRO True Honour award for her work with victims of forced marriages and honour based violence.
