David Truex was born in Washington DC in 1949, qualified as a barrister and solicitor in Australia in 1974 and as a solicitor in England and Wales in 1990. He was a member of Resolution’s National Committee 2000-2002, chaired its International Committee during that period and continues to serve on that Committee. He has also served on the Mediation (now DR) and Specialist Accreditation Committees. David is accredited as a specialist with portfolios in European and international, complex finances and financial advocacy.
In Australia he chaired various committees of the Law Institute of Victoria, including its Family Law Executive Committee 1987-1988 when the introduction of the first lawyer specialist accreditation scheme in Australia was secured with his casting vote in a split ballot. His proudest achievement was founding the first family lawyer mediation programme in Australia in 1985, and subsequently the Mediation Association of Victoria, while working as a legal aid lawyer.
David is a co-contributor to Resolution’s online Guide to International Family Law and a consultant to the World Congress on Family Law and Children’s Rights, which next meets 2-7 June 2017 in Dublin. He publishes the information and referral website www.internationalfamilylaw.com to assist lawyers and their clients.
