About us

Young Resolution Merseyside was founded in 2011 by local young family lawyers.

Our aim is to promote the Resolution Conduct of Conduct and specifically to provide:

  • a forum for family practitioners to attend seminars particularly tailored to their needs;
  • an opportunity to socialise and network with other family practitioners under 6 years PQE and junior Counsel; and
  • increase membership and awareness of Resolution among family law practitioners under 6 years PQE and students studying family law.

Young Resolution is open to all members of Resolution who are not partners in the firm that they work for.

You can find details of how to join Resolution on the main website or by speaking to a member of our committee.

NB If you are a partner in your firm but are less than six years qualified you are still welcome to attend Young Resolution Merseyside events. Equally as someone thinking about joining Resolution you are welcome to attend our events (see flyers for individual events).

For details of forthcoming events and previous events, please see our events page.

Events are organised by the committee and we typically hold two seminars and two social events per year. If there is a topic you would be particularly interested in, please contact a member of the committee to discuss it

The Committee

Chair: Matthew Taylor Matthew.Taylor@weightmans.com

Matt works for Weightmans, having joined the firm in 2015 after training and qualifying in a niche family and entertainment law firm in London. Prior to this he worked in PR, firstly in theatre and then in charities, while completing the GDL and LPC on a part-time basis. His specialism is in mid-to-high net worth financial remedy and Tolata cases, but he also has a number of private law Children Act matters in his caseload.

Appointed as Chair of YRes Merseyside in December 2016, Matt joined the committee to help raise the profile of family law in the area and to meet other young professionals. Outside of work, Matt is generally too busy being driven to distraction by his 2-year-old son and the impending arrival of his second child to have much time to himself, but given the chance enjoys watching sport, playing golf (badly) and cooking.
